The Roger Maris Museum is a 70-foot display case museum located in the West Acres Shopping Center in Fargo, North Dakota. The museum was created by Fargo American Legion members Robert Smith and James McLaughlin. Originally, Maris declined to have a museum erected in his honor. He initially agreed only if it be on public display and charge no admission, as he did not want to capitalize on his success.
The museum opened in Fargo, North Dakota – Roger’s hometown – in 1984. True to Roger’s wishes, it is visible, accessible, and free. The glass-enclosed museum enables visitors to re-live Roger’s legendary life.
The museum features a variety of exhibits that showcase Maris' life and career. The exhibits include photographs, memorabilia, and artifacts from his baseball career. The museum also features a replica of the Yankee Stadium scoreboard from the day Maris hit his 61st home run.
The museum is open seven days a week. Its hours are Monday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
