Roger Maris and his time with the Kansas City Athletics.
Roger Maris was traded to the Kansas City Athletics during the 1958 season. He played in 99 games and hit 19 home runs for Kansas City in 1958. In 1959, he played in 122 games and hit 16 home runs; he missed 45 games during the second half of the season as a result of an appendix operation.
Maris played for four teams during his career: the Cleveland Indians, Kansas City Athletics, New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals. He was selected to play in the second of two All-Star Games held in 1959.
Roger Maris died in 1985 of Hodgkin's lymphoma.
